Food Photography

Food in photography is a specialized still-life genre that focuses on making dishes and ingredients look irresistibly appetizing. It is an art form used across advertising, cookbooks, and social media, aimed at translating the flavour, texture, and sensory experience of a meal into a compelling visual language.

LightingSoft, diffused natural light (like sitting next to a large window) is the industry standard. Harsh or direct overhead light can wash out colours and create unappealing shadows.
CompositionPhotographers use specific angles—such as the classic 45° shot or a top-down (“flat lay”) view—to showcase the food best.
StylingThis involves arranging ingredients, placing garnishes, or even intentionally leaving crumbs to make the dish look realistic and inviting
